General information on our standard policies can be found below.
Arrivals and Departures
Your child should be brought inside the building by an adult, and a staff worker notified that the child has arrived before you leave.
The Sign IN / Sign OUT sheets located on bulletin boards upstairs and downstairs, should be completed daily. Please note what time you child arrived and departed. The sheet should be signed only when your child is picked up that day.
If someone other that the designated person is to pick up your child, the staff worker and the office must be notified, preferably in writing. Persons unfamiliar to the staff may be asked to present their driver’s license. This is done in order to insure your child’s safety.
Overtime Policy
Beck’s Baptist Preschool and Child Care Center hours are from 6:30 am until 6:00 pm.
Since it is necessary to keep a staff member overtime when a child is picked up late, a fee of $15.00 for the first fifteen minutes and a fee of $5.00 for each fifteen minutes thereafter will be charged for a child after 6:00 pm.
Absences, Holidays, and Bad Weather
If your child will be absent, notify the Center with the reason for the absence.
There is no reduction in fees for holidays or bad weather.
At Our Center
Clothing
A change of clothes should be kept at the Center at all times. Clothing should be marked with your child’s name in them. We are not responsible for unmarked clothing and personal belongings. The child should be provided with a sweater, coat or light jacket. The children go outdoors in all types of dry weather. Please provide appropriate clothes for them at all times. All clothing must be taken home each Friday.
Sleep Time Toys
Children may not bring toys, costumes, chewing gum, candy or other things from home. Flowers or other objects of nature, which can be shared with the group, are welcome. Sleeping blankets, pillows, and/or stuffed animals may be brought for use during sleep time only. These items must be taken home each Friday to be laundered.
Visitation
We strongly advise that each child visit the Center with a parent prior to their first day. This will help make the transition to child care easier for the child. Every child will adjust to a new environment at his or her own rate.
All parents or guardians are encouraged to visit the Center at any time and are always welcome on field trips. If you have a “special talent” we strongly encourage you to share it.
Please notify your child’s teacher prior to attending class.
Good Behavior
Rewarding good behavior is our aim, so that a child will find unacceptable behavior lacks fun and fails to get him/her the desired attention of the teacher. By using the positive approach, we hope the child will choose the better way.
Celebrating Birthdays
A child’s birthday may be celebrated if the parent so desires. Arrangements should be made in advance with the staff worker.
Holiday Celebrations
Holidays are celebrated at the center. The celebrations are left up to each teacher.
Interaction with Teachers
Teachers are happy to talk with you if you have questions or concerns, but are not allowed to discuss matters concerning someone else’s child. If you have a concern to discuss with your child’s teacher, the teacher will be happy to schedule a meeting (along with the Director if requested). If your concern requires immediate attention, the teacher will locate someone to supervise the children in order to meet with you.
Do not discuss your concerns, whether about a child or an adult, in front of the class. Children become upset when adults raise their voices and exhibit anger. No parent, legal guardian, or any adult responsible for picking up and dropping off a child may disrupt a class or show anger, use profanity or use threatening gestures toward a Center employee. If such behavior is exhibited, the parent or legal guardian will be notified that his/her child(ren) may no longer attend the Center.
Center workers will not discuss other children, workers or Center problems in front of parents, staff, or other children. The Staff is not allowed to discuss a child with anyone other that a parent or legal guardian. If you observe one of the above behaviors, please notify the Director immediately.
Child Abuse and Neglect
By North Carolina law, care givers are required to report suspected cases of child abuse and neglect. If such cases arise, the alerted staff worker will report the case to the Center Director who will contact the Protective Services Unit of the Department of Social Services.
Health Information
Medical Report Form
The Medical Report Form must be completed and signed by your child’s physician. A copy should be filed in the office before your child is enrolled in the Center. All children must have had all required immunizations. State law demands we have this form the 1st day of attendance.
Medicine
Parents will need to leave notes with The Director or lead teacher for special instructions for administering medicine. Any medication brought to the Center must be in the original bottle with the child’s name written or typed on it. No medicine will be given without the parent’s written permission. Written permission must be given weekly.
The parent should provide a medicine spoon or like measure for administering medication.
Illness
If a child becomes ill while at the Center, the parent will be promptly notified and the child will be isolated until the parent arrives. In case of emergency, if a parent cannot be reached, the doctor listed by the parent will be contacted.
If a child has symptoms of illness, such as elevated temperature, rash, vomiting or diarrhea, parents are required to keep the child at home.
A child returning to the Center after having a contagious disease must be free of fever (100 degrees or above) and other symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to the Center. (Example: If a child has diarrhea or vomiting today, he may not return to the Center tomorrow.)
You will be notified when any communicable disease is discovered in the Center. The health department will be consulted if necessary.
CPR Training
At least 2 staff members who are certified in CPR or first-aid are on duty at all times.
Nutrition
All children receive the same food unless religious or medical needs state otherwise. The Center must be notified of such needs in writing. Nutritious morning and afternoon snacks and lunch are provided. Breakfast may not be brought into the classrooms. Morning snack is served between 9:00 am and 9:30 am, lunch is served at 11:30 am, and the afternoon snack is served at approximately 2:30 pm. All meals are served by our cook in the Child Care Dining Room. Monthly menus are posted in each classroom.
